Kaitlyn J. Andren is a partner at Terzich & Ort, LLP, who devotes her practice exclusively to family law.  She brings a thoughtful and practical approach to helping clients with a wide range of family law issues, including divorce, legal separation, physical custody, legal custody, parenting time, child support, spousal maintenance, property division, debt allocation, paternity, contempt, domestic abuse, harassment, and step-parent adoption.

Before joining Terzich & Ort, LLP, Kaitlyn developed her family law practice while working for several years as a family law attorney at another small family law firm. Kaitlyn also worked as a law clerk for the Honorable Edward T. Wahl at the Family Justice Center in Hennepin County and worked as a Special Assistant County Attorney in the family law division of the Anoka County Attorney’s Office.  Kaitlyn’s previous positions allowed her to gain meaningful experience handling family law issues and develop first-hand knowledge of the court system and the judicial decision-making process.

Kaitlyn also practices family law at the appellate level. She wrote a brief as amicus curiae with Standpoint (MN) in support of appellant’s position in Pooley v. Pooley, A20-1250 (Minn. 2022), which was a case regarding omitted assets in a divorce. The Minnesota Supreme Court ruled in favor of appellant, which was a huge victory for making sure financially abusive spouses are prevented from forcing their victims to agree to extremely inequitable divisions of property while leaving them no recourse to challenge those divisions.

Kaitlyn also helped a client successfully appeal an Order for Protection matter in 2018. In re the Matter of Hansen v. Richter, A17-1063 (Minn. Ct. App. 2018) (nonprecedential opinion).

Kaitlyn has earned consistent recognition as being among the top 2.5% of lawyers in her region, and she has received “Excellent” client ratings on Avvo along with the site’s Clients’ Choice Award. She is honored for her outstanding professionalism and stellar client service.

Kaitlyn has been selected as a Rising Star by Super Lawyers® publication in 2021 and 2022. While up to five percent of the lawyers in Minnesota are named to Super Lawyers®, no more than two and a half percent are named to the Rising Stars list.

Kaitlyn has also been recognized as a North Star Lawyer by the Minnesota State Bar Association for providing at least 50 hour of pro bono legal services to low-income individuals at no fee and without expectation of a fee.

Kaitlyn earned her Bachelor of Arts from Gustavus Adolphus College and her Juris Doctor from the University of St. Thomas School of Law.  She is a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association, the Hennepin County Bar Association (Family Law Section), the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC), the Family Law League, and Minnesota Women Lawyers.  In addition, Kaitlyn serves as a volunteer attorney and is a Qualified Neutral under Rule 114 of the Minnesota General Rules of Practice.

Kaitlyn serves as a Class Engagement Officer to the University of St. Thomas School of Law Class of 2015. She also serves as a mentor to a law student at the University of St. Thomas School of Law through their Mentor-Externship program each year. In addition, Kaitlyn volunteers as a mentor to an undergrad student at Gustavus Adolphus College through the Gustavus Mentoring program each year.

In her spare time, Kaitlyn enjoys traveling, baking gluten free goodies, playing tennis, and spending time with family and friends and her dog, Stanley.
