Dyan Schnaars is a family law attorney with a commitment to compassion and quality legal care. Dyan is an Alexandria, Louisiana native who transplanted to Lafayette 21 years ago. Dyan began her career as a paralegal, obtaining her certification in 1993 from NSU (Natchitoches). In 2006, Dyan returned to school and obtained a BS in Business Administration with a concentration in Management from University of Louisiana at Lafayette. As a scholar, Dyan was a distinguished member of the National Scholars Honor Society and of Sigma Alpha Lambda Honors Fraternity. She was also a member of the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, Christians at Law and Women at Law.
Dyan obtained her Juris Doctorate from Southern University Law Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 2012. Dyan opened a general practice in 2012, and decided to focus exclusively on Family Law in December 2014. Dyan has a passion for families and strives to minimize the negative impacts of divorce on her clients and their children. She is admitted to practice in all Louisiana state courts, and the Louisiana Supreme Court. She is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association (LSBA) and the Lafayette Parish Bar Association (LBA), as well as a participating member of the specialized Family Law Sections of each bar. Dyan also frequently speaks to local DivorceCare Groups and Children’s Advocacy Groups. Dyan was selected through a stringent selection process to receive the NAFLA Top Ten Lawyers Under 40 Award in 2019. This award is handed out to the less than 1% of attorneys in their filed who demonstrate extraordinary amount of knowledge, skill expertise and success in their practice. Only ten lawyers are selected annually from each state. She was also honored by the LBA with the Outstanding Attorney Award in 2015 and 2016, and the Top Attorney award for 2016 and Outstanding Attorney Award for 2018 for her pro bono work in the community. Schnaars Law Firm also received the Outstanding Law Firm Award – Solo Practice in 2017. Dyan resides in Lafayette Louisiana with her husband, Matthew, and their son. Dyan is a proud military mom of an older son as well.
